Ashoka University students win prestigious Inlaks Shivdasani scholarship

June 12, 2025

Two students from the Ashoka Scholars Programme (ASP) 2025 cohort at Ashoka University have been awarded the prestigious Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation scholarship.

Ashoka University, a leading liberal arts and sciences institution based in Sonipat, Haryana, was established in 2014. It has rapidly become a centre for interdisciplinary education, cutting-edge research, and social impact. The university’s Ashoka Scholars Programme (ASP) is a distinctive, research-intensive fourth-year postgraduate diploma (DipASR), designed to provide students with advanced academic exposure and prepare them for global careers and postgraduate study.

The Inlaks scholarship is one of India’s most competitive and respected awards for postgraduate study abroad. It supports outstanding young Indian graduates pursuing education at top institutions in the UK, Europe, and the United States. In the 2025 cycle, only seven students across India were selected for the scholarship—two of them from Ashoka University. Notably, Ashoka was the only institution in the country to have more than two finalists this year, with eleven students and alumni shortlisted for the initial interview round.

This is the second consecutive year in which two Ashoka students have won the Inlaks scholarship, reinforcing the university’s growing reputation in the global academic community and its ongoing dedication to nurturing future leaders.

Comments Rudrangshu Mukherjee, chancellor of Ashoka University and one of the earliest recipients of the Inlaks scholarship: “I was one of the first Inlaks scholars, so I am really elated that students of Ashoka are getting the same scholarship. This recognition reflects the spirit of academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and social responsibility that we strive to instil in our students.”

Adds Priyanka Chandhok, vice president of the career development office and office of post-graduate studies: “The journey from graduation and beyond at Ashoka is not just a destination but a transformative experience. The recent success of our students winning the Inlaks scholarship is a testament to their hard work and the broad, rigorous academic environment we foster.”

Ashoka’s ties to the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation run deep. In addition to chancellor Mukherjee, vice-chancellor Somak Raychaudhury and several faculty members are former Inlaks scholars.
