On April 28, the UK based University of Portsmouth (UoP), ranked among the top 40 universities in UK and among top 100 international modern universities*, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Raksha Shakti University, Ahmedabad to collaborate over a wide range of academic and research activities and initiatives.
The MoU between the University of Portsmouth and Raksha Shakti University, Ahmedabad focuses on collaborative research activities in the domain of their mutual interests. The partnership will also support aspiring students from both institutions in placement opportunities along with student and faculty exchange programmes. The collaboration will also include the development of collaborative academic programmes, joint conferences, seminars and workshops.
This MoU coincides with opening of the University of Portsmouth’s Adviser Team in India. The inaugural function included a launch event to officially announce its new India Advisers Team in Delhi and introduce the team to key stakeholders in the region, who will work alongside the university’s global department in Portsmouth to raise the profile of the university within India and to assist students wishing to study here.
Apart from signing of the MoU on the occasion, a panel discussion was held on the topic “Human and Social Dimensions of Cybersecurity” – an area of special expertise by the University of Portsmouth. Speakers included T. S. Bisht, IPS, Director General of Police, Prisons & Correctional Administration, Gujarat State, Ahmedabad and Keshav Kumar – joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, Mumbai, apart from the university panel.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Chris Chang, pro vice-chancellor of Global Engagement of University of Portsmouth (UoP) said, “We are extremely happy to engage in a key market such as India. This will help us support and facilitate a partnership between the University of Portsmouth and Indian partners. We are delighted to sign an agreement with a prestigious Indian educational institute like Raksha Shakti University. The Memorandum of Understanding we sign today is the beginning of what we believe to be a long relationship in which we will learn with and from each other through cooperative academic pursuits. We also aim to explore opportunities for research on Cybersecurity and Criminology”.
