A UP government school teacher ‘Anamika Shukla’ was arrested after it was found that she earned Rs 1 crore in 13 months working at 25 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) schools, residential schools for underprivileged girls, throughout the state. A full-time science teacher was arrested from Kasganj district on June 6 but it turns out she is Priya from Farrukhabad. Cops believe it is possible that it is a handiwork of some gang and multiple candidates used credentials of Anamika Shukla.
Basic education minister Satish Dwivedi told ToI that it is shocking that the teacher continued on rolls even when she remained absent. “No office or employee who connived with this teacher in providing her a job at KGBV will be spared,” he said.
According to the officials, they identified one teacher, by the same name, working at Faridpur KGBV in Kasganj district after receiving an alert from the state capital about the fraud. Anjali Agrawal, Kasganj Basic Siksha Adhikari said, “We served her notice asking her to produce all the documents. We formed a committee to investigate the matter and found that the documents she produced were forged. Her salary account was immediately frozen. When she realised that her account has been frozen, she went to school to collect her belongings and came to my office to submit her resignation. We then handed her over to the police.”
She has been booked under the IPC’s sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will etc) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating). According to the police, the woman paid Rs 2.5 lakh to a Manipuri man to get this job. She used the credentials of one UP teacher Anamika Shukla to get the job in 2018 while her real name is Priya. She is a resident of Lakhanpur village in Farrukhabad.
The UP government said that there are five candidates with the same name ‘Anamika Shukla’ who are working at KGBV schools in Ambedkar Nagar, Baghpat, Aligarh, Saharanpur and Prayagraj districts. Teachers at KGBV are appointed on contract for a pay of approximately Rs 30,000 a month.
