Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer confined to science fiction; it is increasingly becoming an integral part of our daily lives, and education is no exception. This is factually correct as we see an intersection of AI and education technology ushering in a new era of personalized, efficient, and innovative learning experiences. Technology in education has been playing a transformative role, shaping how students learn and teachers teach.

There has been a massive adoption of AI in education, and several market research and reports claim that AI is here to disrupt the entire ecosystem. Globally, the size of AI in the education market was valued at USD 1.82 billion in 2021 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36.0% from 2022 to 2030. The increasing investments in AI and EdTech by private and public sectors and the increasing penetration of education drive the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Also, according to a McKinsey & Company report, AI can enhance learning outcomes by 20-30 per cent.

Today, AI is preferably used in schools for professional learning and assessment, lifelong learning or enterprise workforce learning and assessment. Let’s discuss the various ways in which advanced AI is reshaping the EdTech space and its implications for the future of education;

Personalized Learning: Regarding personalized learning, AI can adapt educational content according to a student’s learning style, pace and preferences. The growing adoption of personalized learning among students is changing how learning and assessment are carried out. Personalized learning is based on an individual’s capacity and career goals, which allow them to reach their career and personal aspirations.

Adaptive Learning Platforms: One of the most significant uses of AI in EdTech is the development of adaptive learning platforms (ALP). AI-driven adaptive learning platforms use machine learning to analyze student performance, collect information, and deliver educational content based on the learners’ needs and preferences.

Data-Driven Insights for Educators: AI empowers educators with data-driven insights, enabling them to make informed decisions about their teaching methodologies. By analyzing students’ performance, AI can identify trends, areas of improvement, and individual learning preferences. This information allows educators to tailor their teaching strategies, addressing the specific needs of each student and enhancing overall classroom effectiveness.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR): AI-driven new-age technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, enhance the immersive learning experience. Therefore, this boosts personalized and tailored intervention, leading to better student performance.

Automated Grading and Assessment: With AI, we are also streamlining the grading and assessment process, freeing educators to focus more on teaching. Machine learning algorithms use automated grading systems to evaluate assignments and exams efficiently. This not only reduces the administrative burden on teachers but also provides students with prompt feedback, allowing for timely intervention and improvement.

Refined Workflows: As the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the sector increases, the automation of day-to-day operations becomes efficient and minimizes hassle. Further, schools will benefit from eliminating redundant study materials and assigning appropriate learning models.

To sum up, I believe the combination of AI in education has the potential to transform the education system. AI is changing the way students learn. As AI continues to be used in educational settings, ethical considerations must be made to ensure these technological advancements benefit a more equal, inclusive, and prosperous education. The potential for AI in edtech is limitless, and its impact on education is undeniable.
