Overview

Founded in 1956, Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla (Orissa) formerly known as University College of Engineering, (UCE), Burla is one of the oldest and most prestigious engineering institutions in East India. Since its inception (when it started with 20 students enrolled in three branches of Engineering – Civil, Electrical and Mechanical), it has churned out more than 20,000 graduates and 3,000 post graduates benefitting from various courses offered through its 12 departments – Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication, Production Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Application, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Humanities and Mathematics. All the courses offered here are approved by the New Delhi-based All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It has been recognized as a university by the Government of Orissa as well by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi vide UGC letter No. F.9-36/2009(CPP-I) dated Jan 5, 2010. UCE was placed under the administrative control of Sambalpur University in January 1967 and eventually under Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) in July 2002. The VSSUT training and placement cell helps students secure the best of placements apart from preparing them for national level competitive examinations such as GATE, CAT, MAT, GRE etc. Close to 50 multinational companies recruit from the college campus every year including Tata Consultancy Services, Shapproji & Pallonji, Infosys, Vedants, Larson & Tubro, Tata Motors, and Jindal Stainless.

Campus

Sited amidst verdant surroundings, the university provides an ideal abode for learning and research activities. The wi-fi enabled campus hosts an auditorium, gymnasium, medical dispensary, modern well-equipped labs, conference halls and a central library apart from other facilities. The institute’s central library is the largest technical library in the state of Orissa, featuring more than 70,000 books on various disciplines besides subscriptions to 6,000 bound journals housed in separate reading room of the library and other facilities. The college provides central transport facilities for both students and staff.

Manufacturing Systems Masters of Computer Application VSSUT also offers doctoral level (PhD) courses in various engineering fields. Extra-curricular Activities VSSUT emphasizes on extra-curricular activities as much as academic excellence, thus fostering all-round development of students. The institute promotes a number of student-run, interest specific clubs, associations and societies such as the students’ cultural association, the dramatic association, music, athletic, art and photography clubs, yoga centre, literary society, student-run college magazine Galaxy, audio-visual club, and robotics club. The college is also known for its annual technical festival – Samavesh. Through the National Service Scheme, students also have the opportunity to volunteer for social work.

Admission

Entrance test for admission to the M.Tech programme is conducted by VSSUT itself. However, admissions to the B.Tech and MCA programmes are based on performance in the Orissa Joint Entrance Examination. Fees For information on fees, please visit the college websiteor contact the college office.
