West Wind Nursery and KindergartenSchool was founded in 1947 by a group of five women who wanted their children to receive individual attention while learning in a stimulating environment. They wanted to promote a school which provides well rounded education devoted to the intellectual and emotional well being of a child, not just academics.
An executive committee, composed of mothers elected from the general body governs the affairs of West Wind. Posts include that of a chairperson and deputy, secretary, treasurer, deputy and mothers’ are in-charge of admission applications, school maintenance & supplies, entertainment, events and the library.
After the sale of Petit Hall, West Wind shifted to Walkeshwar in 1968 and then to Oomer park at Breach Candy in 1989. The school continued to function at Oomer park until August 2008 when it relocated to Gamdevi.
West Wind’s new Gamdevi campus offers excellent teaching-learning facilities as well as play equipment.
The school’s curriculum encompasses formal academic training and a wide variety of activities such as Hindi, music, exercise, art and craft, yoga and physical training.
A number of events are planned during the year with the objective of developing confidence and independent thinking skills. Field trips are also organised to places of interest such as the fire brigade, post office, supermarket, plant nursery, race course, bakery etc.
Artists and professionals from fields such as music, dance and drama are also invited to conduct special classes for children.
The school hosts a Sports day in December/January. It is a fun filled event to encourage the spirit of true sportsmanship among little athletes.
Preference children have to be registered for a minimum period of one year to be considered preference and they are given a registration number.
Mothers of preference children may come to school anytime throughout the school year to complete the preference registration form however they are also expected to fill in the admission questionnaire in the month of July when the child turns two.
Preference children are not guaranteed admission.
