Team G2

Team G2 — a quintet comprising Aryan Rahul Yadav, Mushfiq Mohd Ghous Farooqui, Shreyansh Shridhar Kasturi, Falak Mallebari and Krishika Amit Kambli, all class VI-VIII students of Mumbai Public School Hariyali Village CBSE School, Vikhroli, Mumbai — has designed the prototype of a Smart Hygienic Toilet which bagged first prize at the RoboRise Innovation Challenge 2025 finale staged on February 15 at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School, Mumbai.

The RoboRise Challenge was organised by team members of Project Udaan, an initiative of Mumbai-based STEM education evangelists, The Innovation Story in association with Harvard University, IIT-Bombay, Amazon Future Engineers, Capgemini, and Tata Capital. It attracted participation of 80 teams from 35 municipal schools in Mumbai. It required participants to design a cost-effective device to improve hygiene and accessibility.

The top-prize winner Smart Hygienic Toilet is an efficient solution for public restrooms designed to improve hygiene and encourage responsible usage. It features an automatic door that opens when a user presses a button and closes after entry. If the user forgets to flush after use, the door remains locked. For comfort, the toilet includes a heated seat that adjusts to room temperature. The model also incorporates an efficient flushing system to optimise water usage. Using sensor technology, the system detects user presence and automates various functions.

“We are extremely grateful to our school teachers Ramesh Kurude Sir and Swati Shinde Ma’am, and our mentor Vishnupriya Ma’am for their ideas and considerable time. Without school support, we would never have been able to complete this project,” says G2 spokesperson Shreyansh.

“Sanitation management is a major problem in India. Clean and cost-effective public toilets are very necessary, especially for women citizens. Our Smart Hygiene Toilet requires very little water, guarantees cleanliness and is cost-effective to install on mass scale. We are hopeful our innovation will be commercialised soon,” he adds.
