1000 Candidates to receive archival conservator training under Skill India Mission

March 22, 2024

Under the Skill India Mission, 1000 candidates will undergo training in the Archival Conservator Program, a collaboration between the Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) and the National Archives of India (NAI). This initiative aims to equip participants with the skills needed to restore old documents and facilitate their digitization, enhancing accessibility to historical records.

The program, launched in New Delhi, involves comprehensive training modules and practical workshops to impart proficiency in restoration techniques, archival best practices, and digital preservation strategies. Through this initiative, participants will assist in the meticulous repair and rehabilitation of 2.25 crore stored data at the NAI, fostering greater historical understanding and inclusivity.

Shri. Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, highlighted the significance of preserving historical data and the partnership with NAI to nurture skilled professionals in specialized sectors. The certified candidates will contribute to ongoing digitization projects, improving access to historical records and preserving cultural heritage.

The program will enhance employability prospects for youth in archival digitization efforts and aligns with the government’s vision to provide ease of access to citizens in the archival sector. By leveraging technology, the NAI aims to create a digital repository that empowers future generations with a deeper appreciation of our collective history while maintaining the integrity and authenticity of records.
