Overview

Started in 1983, Bethany Special School in Bengaluru offers education for children with physical and mental disabilities. Bethany Special School is a part of Bethany High – a CISCE affiliated school located in Koramangala, Bengaluru and was sited within the main school campus till 2002. Bethany Special School has 68 students on its rolls.

Campus

The school campus hosts spacious classrooms, modern computer labs, learning lab, music and drama classes, auditorium, well-stocked library, and canteen. The campus provides an ideal learning environment for the mental, physical, spiritual and emotional growth of every child.

Academics

Children learn functional academics, language and communication skills, social skills, ADL skills (Activities of Daily Living), gross and fine motor skills, prevocational and vocational skills. They also attend computer classes twice a week. Each child has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) formulated by the principal at the beginning of the academic year. Assessments are done thrice a year. Reports are shared with parents during the Parent Teacher meetings.

The school conducts dance classes and aero fitness centre for aerobics.

The school offers following the vocational training units for students:

Craft unit – In this unit children learn many activities such as diya making, painting, pottery, candle making and cross stich to name.

Bakery Unit – Children learn various vocational activities such as giving shapes to biscuits, keeping the bakery surroundings clean and ensure hygienic packing etc.

Loom unit – This is a vocational training unit with one big loom, two small looms and two frames to make foot mats. In this unit, children are trained for activities such as weaving, rolling, cutting, sequencing and stitching.
