Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya (SKV) is an all-girls’ residential school located in Gwalior – a historical city in Madhya Pradesh. The school was founded by the Late Rajmata of Gwalior, Srimant Vijaya Raje Scindia in 1956, with a view to promote education for the girl child in the newly independent India. The school embodies her dream of providing progressive modern education and equipping young girls to be good citizens. Inaugurated by the then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the school took off on its mission to stay grounded to roots of tradition and to take wing in the exhilarating air of freedom.
The entry level class at SKV is class V. According to a school spokesperson, “In today’s competitive world, the need of the hour is to reduce the stress level of the students and at the same time enhance their creativity. The school tries to develop in its students the ability to ‘create’ as against ‘copy’ by providing an experiential learning curriculum in the formative years. It helps to not only enhance their learning potential but also to bring them to the center stage of learning. It facilitates the students taking charge of their own learning as well as making the content relevant to them.”
Housed in 35 acres of lush greenery, the Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya is a serene haven with a vibrant ambience. A home away from home for about 500 students from all parts of the country and abroad, the school claims to build a sturdy academic foundation and prepare the students for the world of tomorrow. Because of student- faculty ratio of 10:1, students enjoy personal attention that only comes from a close-knit academic community. In addition to their teaching roles, the faculty also serves as mentors and facilitates the students to explore their hidden talents
The academic block is a double-storeyed building with spacious classrooms. A separate set of six classrooms comprises the junior school for classes V-VII. Classrooms are equipped with interactive digital white boards connected to a smart class knowledge centre in the school building. SKV has two computer centers equipped with modern hardware and updated software with all machines connected in local area network. Computer education is imparted from class V to XII. The internet facility is provided to the boarders as and when required under the strict supervision of teachers.
The campus houses well equipped laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology and home science. Recently a mathematics laboratory has also been added to make the subject more interesting. The library is equipped with an excellent selection of Indian and foreign books, journals and periodicals.
The school is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and the medium of instruction is English. It follows a system of CCE – Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation for classes V – X where student’s performance is assessed throughout the academic session on the basis of formative and summative assessments.
The curriculum for classes V to VII has been developed in partnership with iDiscoveri Education Called XSeed, the programme strives to unleash the potential of young minds. The XSEED way of learning sets the foundation for a child’s life as it ensures the child learns, knows, understands and applies. Theme based learning and project based learning is followed, which not only reinforces understanding but also builds confidence. E-learning modules are used to teach and strengthen complex concepts.
The school has qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching staff comprising of about 50 trained graduate and post-graduate teachers. Some faculties live on campus, thereby enabling them to involve themselves in all the activities of the school. The teacher-student ratio of 1: 10 ensures attention to each child.

SportsAdmission to classes V – IX is done on the basis of an aptitude test in English, Hindi and Mathematics conducted in the month of November every year for the session beginning 1 April of the subsequent year. Admission to class XI is done in July after the class X board results. Candidates need to clear an interview in late June / early July in order to qualify. Preference is given to girls from CBSE schools.
The prospectus is available only from the administrative office on payment of Rs. 750. If downloaded copy of the registration form is used for registration of the student then a demand draft of Rs. 4300/- should be sent with the form.
Duly filled registration form along with the registration fee and date of birth certificate issued by the municipal corporation should be submitted to the school, following which the school sends a letter of confirmation of registration along with registration number after scrutiny of the registration form.
On the basis of age, performance in the entrance examination and the interview, the school decides the class to which the candidate is admitted. A medical certificate, in accordance with the prescribed form must be produced before admission. The school reserves the right to reject or admit any candidate.
Fees:
Recurring fee includes annual composit fee and imprest fee and amounts to Rs 2, 27, 000. In addition there is a onetime fee of Rs 49, 000 that includes admission fee, caution money and uniforms fee. The fee structure is liable to change from time to time.

The school has been ranked first among girls boarding schools by the EW India School Rankings 2020-21.
The students are accommodated house – wise from classes VII-XII. There are five hostels for resident students and each hostel is under the direct supervision of two house mistresses and two matrons who live in the hostel. The principal and vice-principal are also reside on campus to oversee hostel functioning.
