Ashutosh Biswas, the executive director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, highlighted the imperative need for collaboration between the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to fortify military physiology. Biswas expressed this sentiment during the ‘AIIMS-Physiomeet’ workshop organized by AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he underscored the critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing physiology education and research.
Biswas suggested exploring potential collaborations between AIIMS and DRDO, specifically in the domain of military physiology. He emphasized the relevance of integrating physiology into various aspects of military scenarios such as underwater, heat, high-altitude, and hypoxic stress. He proposed making military physiology a regular research activity in all physiology departments across different AIIMS institutions.
Kalpana Barhwal, the organizing secretary of the event, emphasized the uniqueness of the workshop, serving as a platform for physiology faculty from various AIIMS institutions to discuss academic synergy and establish research consortiums. The workshop brought together 40 physiologists from 17 AIIMS institutes across the country.
Addressing emerging issues in physiology education and research, experts attending the workshop delved into aspects related to the medical curriculum in physiology. These discussions were regarded as crucial in a global context, shedding light on evolving trends and challenges in the field.
In summary, the workshop facilitated fruitful discussions and highlighted the potential for collaborative efforts between AIIMS and DRDO in advancing military physiology. It provided a platform for experts to address contemporary issues in physiology education and research, fostering academic synergy among AIIMS institutions.
