The Alma College Model United Nations (MUN) team has once again achieved success on a national stage. At the 2023 National Model UN Conference held in April in New York City, the Alma College MUN team received three “outstanding delegation” awards for their representations of Cameroon, Chad, and the Philippines. The conference is considered the world’s largest and most prestigious collegiate MUN competition, with more than 5,500 students representing 250 colleges and universities from 151 countries on five continents.
In addition to the team awards, several Alma College MUN team members received individual accolades. Kianna Carpenter, Mallory Fenskie, Madison Hall, Mariem Hamdi, Angelina Kytmanova, Taylor Neeb, Aditya Shankar, and Abigail Thomas were recognized for their outstanding individual performances.
The Alma College MUN team’s written submissions were also highly praised, with 18 students earning “outstanding written submission” recognition. The team’s success is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and collaboration with students from around the world.
Derick “Sandy” Hulme, Arthur L. Russell Professor of Political Science and MUN advisor, praised the Alma College team for their contributions to one of the highest-quality conferences in recent memory. The Alma College MUN program provides students with opportunities to develop critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills while educating themselves on global issues and diplomacy.
