According to an official release on February 18, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has directed state minister for health and education, Himanta Biswa Sarma to give more emphasis on extra-curricular activities in state-run schools and colleges. Gogoi, during a review meeting of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), said the best way to do away with obesity among the young generation was through physical activities. “Games and sports, yoga and other physical exercises are the best way to keep the young generation fit and healthy”, he said.
Besides, extra-curricular activities such as drawing, singing, dancing and holding mock parliament should also be made a regular part of the academic curriculum, he added.
