Bangalore University B.Com students score more than maximum marks

January 25, 2022

Bangalore University‘s Bachelor of Commerce results which were released on Monday took many students to surprise as they had got more marks than the maximum marks of the examination.

The B.com students had appeared for their examination during the months of April-May, 2021. Many students secured 102 out of 100. For the theory paper, travel agency and tour operator organisation, 70 was the maximum marks 30 marks were for internal exam. Many students have been awarded with 72 marks out of 70 in the theory examination.

One of the students of the university said,” I was really surprised to see the results. I got 102 out of 100. I don’t understand why the university didn’t check the results before announcing them. This needs to be rectified.”

Another student from a private college was awarded eight marks in corporate accounting, six in financial management, three in quantitative analysis and businesses decision and 72 in travel Agency and tour operator organization out of 70.

“The issue happened as the students did not read the instructions in the question paper. There were two types of students who had sat for the exam. One were the regular ones and the others were who were attempting it as a one-time measure. Regular students who were following the CBCS (choice-based credit system) scheme only had to answer sections A, B and C and the exam was out of 70 marks whereas for the others it was out of 100 marks and they were supposed to answer sections A, B, C, D, E. Many regular students did not read the sections and answered all the questions. Since this is a digital evaluation, all the sections were checked and marks were awarded. Hence, some regular students who answered all the sections, got more than the maximum marks,” said JT Devaraj, registrar (evaluation), Bangalore University.

“Now, it is a Herculean task for us to go back and check each student’s paper to understand whether they were to write the exam for 70 or 100 marks. We will get it all corrected,” he added.
