Delhi play schools may soon need to register with the WCD department

January 18, 2024

Playschools situated in the national capital may soon be required to undergo registration with the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) under the Delhi government. This decision reportedly follows a recent meeting involving the WCD, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), and the Delhi Education Department.

The NCPCR, during the meeting, brought attention to various inadequacies observed in the operations of playschools in the city, prompting the WCD to take action. The source from the WCD conveyed that the Women and Child Welfare Department of the Delhi government was made aware of instances where several playschools were not adhering to established norms.

Notably, it was highlighted that some parents were enrolling their children in playschools as early as the age of two, a practice deemed in violation of child rights norms. Consequently, playschools in the national capital are expected to undergo mandatory registration with the Delhi government to ensure compliance with the prescribed regulations.

The process of registration is anticipated to involve an application form, which will be made available on the department’s official website. The department intends to publicize the link to the application form through advertisements in the near future. Alongside the registration requirements, the form is expected to include guidelines outlining the proper functioning of playschools, offering a comprehensive framework to address concerns related to child rights and appropriate educational practices. This development underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a regulated and accountable environment within the playschool sector in Delhi.
