Draw Your Toon

Anitha Bennett

Funny faces are easy to draw. The key to drawing cartoons or caricatures is to exaggerate a person’s facial features — like huge eyes, rabbit teeth or hairy ears — to make them larger than life on paper. Follow these instructions and mix and match to draw hilarious funny faces!
1. The shape of a face can be simple — oval, round, heart-shaped or even square.
2. Make the eyes striking. Exaggerate eyes by making them huge and round with eyeballs rolling upwards, downwards or sideways.
Elongated and thin eyes accompanied by crude, bushy eyebrows will give your toon a mean look! Eyes can be mere slits when a person is laughing hard.
3. A nose with huge nostrils, or a pointed nose can be dramatic and funny.
4. The mouth adds expression to the face. A thin line for the mouth goes with the stern look. A happy face can sport an exaggerated, upturned, curvy mouth. Try adding two buck teeth in front! A sad or dull face can have the mouth curving downwards with a tear or two on the cheeks.
5. Draw huge ears on both sides of the head! If you are drawing a girl, add hoopy earrings or oversized studs.
6. Try drawing hair standing up straight and stiff, oil-plastered hair or pony tails with big bows.
Animals can also be drawn as caricatures and produce hilarious results.

“Laughter is the best medicine.” That’s not just a thought-provoking quote, but a proven fact. The benefits of laughter range from reduced stress, increased pain tolerance, immunity boost and eternal youth.
Laughter Clubs have mushroomed around the world. There are over 5,000 such clubs worldwide. Members of all ages, from different walks of life, meet regularly to share jokes, smiles, guffaws and deep-throated chuckles!
Do you know that ‘World Laughter Day’ was inaugurated in 1998, by an Indian, Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement? It’s celebrated on the first Sunday of May, and members of laughter clubs all over the world get together in their countries to have a hearty laugh.
“Celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter,” says Dr. Kataria.

“A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s book.” Irish Proverb
