DU begins new session admissions, introduces single girl child quota

May 29, 2024

Delhi University announced the introduction of a single girl child quota across all its programs for the academic session 2024-2025 as it initiated the admission process for undergraduate courses. At a press conference, university officials unveiled the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) for UG admissions into 69 colleges and departments, offering a total of 71,000 seats.

Within three hours of its launch, the CSAS website received 5,911 applications. While there are no significant changes in the admission policy this year, the university introduced reservation for single girl children in all programs as part of the supernumerary seats, said DU registrar Vikas Gupta. Regarding the identification process for single girl children, Gupta stated that modalities are being worked out. Last year, DU introduced a supernumerary category for orphan students.

The admissions will be conducted in two phases: first for registration on the CSAS portal and second for seat allotment. A mid-entry option will be provided for applicants who missed the initial registration on CSAS by paying a non-refundable fee of Rs 1,000. However, such candidates won’t have the right to claim a seat allocated to another candidate who applied through CSAS in the initial phase. The CSAS website is now open for student registration, announced Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi.

The second phase of DU admissions will commence after the declaration of CUET UG results, expected on June 30. Like last year, admissions to Delhi University will be based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores for both UG and PG courses. Admissions to PhD courses will also be based on CUET scores. Admissions for the School of Open Learning (SOL) and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) will begin next month, with the registration portal for SOL and NCWEB programs opening on June 3.

Admissions to Bachelor’s programs in SOL and NCWEB will be based on class 12th marks, while some PG courses in SOL will also consider CUET scores. SOL will offer nine UG and eight PG programs, while NCWEB will offer 12 combinations of BA program and B.Com Pass across its 26 affiliated colleges. For DU’s postgraduate, B.Tech, and 5-year integrated law programs, registrations are ongoing, with the tentative date for the announcement of the first list of allocations set for June 20. Over 25.99 lakh candidates applied for various programs of DU in CUET UG this year, with 7.63 lakh unique candidates. The most sought-after courses were B.Tech, B.Com Hons, B.Com, and English Hons.
