The Himachal Pradesh government has initiated the “My School-My Pride” campaign as part of the “Apna Vidyalay” program, encouraging individuals and organizations to adopt a school of their choice. The campaign encourages participants to provide career counseling, remedial teaching, yoga training, and financial contributions to the adopted school.
Under the “Giving back to society” initiative of the Apna Vidyalay program, retired teachers, professionals, housewives, or any member of society are invited to join the academic support team. They can contribute by teaching students without seeking payment or honorarium, fostering a synergistic partnership between public representatives, administrative leaders, and skilled professionals to collectively enhance government school education.
The “My School-My Pride” campaign aims to create a support system for schools facing teacher shortages or when teachers are on leave. Adopters will be part of a monitoring system, ensuring effective assistance to schools.
Dignitaries, including MPs, MLAs, and officers, are encouraged to adopt at least one government school of their choice and become School Patrons, suggesting improvement strategies. Similarly, officers in the education department are expected to adopt one school each and serve as mentors.
To enhance accountability and facilitate real-time monitoring, the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) will develop a dedicated portal for the “Apna Vidyalaya” program, accessible to the public.
This initiative reflects a collaborative effort to improve government schools and draws inspiration from the “Akhand Shiksha Jyoti – mere school se nikle moti” scheme introduced during the BJP government’s tenure. This earlier scheme involved successful pass-outs from government schools returning to inspire students and contribute to school improvement.
