The 2024 ICSE (Class X ) examinations will start on February 21 and ISC (Class XII) on February 12, the Council  for the Indian School Certificate Examinations announced on Thursday night and sent the timetable of the two exams to all schools.

The first test in both ICSE and ISC will be in English Language. The last exam in ICSE will be held in Art Paper 4 (Applied art)  and the ISC will end with the holding of Environmental Science paper I.

The ICSE will continue till March 28 and the ISC will end on April 3. The timetables for both examinations were sent to all the schools on Thursday which will be distributed among the students on Friday.

The results of both the board exams will be declared in May but the results will not be available from the office of CISCE in New Delhi, and queries about the results by candidates, parents and guardians will not be entertained, Sangeeta Bhatia, CISCE deputy secretary said in the circulars issued on Thursday night.

In a separate circular to the heads of all affiliated schools, the council announced students appearing in 2024 ICSE and ISC examinations will be allowed to apply for re-evaluation of answer scripts.

The re-evaluation of answer scripts will be allowed in addition to the existing facility in which students are permitted to apply for recheck of answer scripts after the declaration of results.

The recheck of answer scripts is held to check all the answers have been marked, to see whether there has been a mistake in totaling the marks for each question and in transferring the marks correctly onto the first cover page of the answer script.

According to the decision of the council, from next year onwards candidates who are not satisfied with the recheck results will be permitted to apply for re-evaluation of the papers only in the subjects in which they had applied for recheck.

The answer scripts will be examined by experts afresh in the re-evaluation.

The introduction of re-evaluation along with the existing recheck facility is in tune with a provision of the New Education Policy (NEP), according to the council.

“CISCE is pleased to inform you that as per the decision taken by the Executive Committee at its Meeting held on 7th December 2023, there will be a change in the procedure of enquiries concerning examination results from the Examination Year 2024 onwards. In keeping with the progressive thrust given by the NEP 2020, CISCE has decided to introduce re-evaluation of answer scripts, in addition to the existing recheck of answer scripts, after the declaration of results,” the council said in the circular to the heads of all its affiliated schools.

The council has also decided to discontinue the compartment examinations from next year but students will be permitted to take the improvement examinations in a maximum of two subjects, the CISCE announced.

The improvement examination was introduced this year but students could take the test only in one subject.

“It may please be noted that the compartment examination will be discontinued from the examination year 2024 onwards. Additionally, kindly note, the candidates will be able to take the improvement examination in a maximum of two subjects from examination year 2024 onwards,” the circular said.
