Indus Schools’ vision is ‘To create global citizens and leaders of tomorrow through the traditional values of love, empathy, discipline and respect – 21st-century citizens who think globally and act locally’

We fortify this vision in our students by encouraging them to constantly identify and take up projects to address issues in our local community and to raise funds for our community service initiatives, Indus International School Hyderabad (IISH) conducts ‘INSIGNIA’, an annual philanthropic carnival every year. In the earlier years, we raised funds to:

• Build a Primary School in Kondakal Village

• Set up a Library in Kondakal Secondary School

• Set up an ICT Lab in Kondakal Secondary School

• Organise Sports Day for three primary Schools in Kondakal Village

• Establish the Areca Leaf Plant (Machine) to encourage Women Empowerment

• Basic Literacy Classes for Migrant Children

The seed for this year’s drive was sowed early this year when students and
teachers of IISH initiated a project to provide one nutritious meal a day to children combatting malnutrition in our local community. The project was christened I – CAN (Indus Cares and
Nourishes).

The students embarked on this project with a vision to reach out to 200 children combatting malnutrition by establishing a self-sustaining community kitchen.

This project involves developing a two-acre organic farm, establishing a basic kitchen, creating a vermicompost pit and most importantly adequate water provision. The project ensures 100 percent student participation with very clear tasks assigned to each student group.

The students of IISH conducted our annual event called INSIGNIA – an event in aid of a social cause. This year was by far the BEST one! Games, food stalls, sports events, music and dance, fun and frolic – a vibrant carnival atmosphere prevailed in our School. The students were brilliant from the planning to execution. Hard work, a large and noble cause, immense learning and loads of fun went handin-hand. Our students were simply brilliant at organising the entire fundraiser and kept their energy levels high till the nth hour! Their energy and excitement was truly contagious and culminated in thundering applause and encouragement by the audience.

Their meticulous planning and sincerity towards the cause ensured the students exceeded the target of Rs 25 lakhs and raised a whopping 38 lakhs. This achievement has put the vision in a strong position and reaching out to 200 children suffering from malnutrition will soon be a reality. We achieved this goal with the sincere support and effort of our students, teachers and parents – an exemplary reassurance to each one of us that good intentions and hard work always has a way of materialising. We are awash with gratitude for the unity and teamwork displayed by our Indus community. We hope that our efforts in instilling our core values of love, empathy, discipline and respect in our students will go a long way in their journey of life.
