Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Nagaur, Rajasthan is a coeducational residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Started in 1986, JNV Nagaur aims to equip its students with qualification, skills, knowledge and attitude which will enable them to thrive in today’s fast changing world and create a valued personality through education.
The school is a part of the JNV group of schools run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi – an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education, Government of India. JNVs are alternate schools for talented children in rural areas of India which aim at providing children the best residential school system irrespective of their socio-economic background.
Spread across 30 acres, the school campus houses a library, well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology, math, language and computer science, spacious classrooms with smart boards, multipurpose hall, infirmary, indoor games room and a playground.
Affiliated with CBSE, JNV, Nagaur offers classes from class VI through XII. The teaching methodology includes lectures, classroom interaction, peer group training, site seeing and the explanation of the concerned topic followed by a thorough discussion. In addition to this, various power-points and online teaching programmes are employed to impart education through the most modern technology viz. computer audio-visual integration.

Admission in JNVs is made through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) at class VI. The medium of instruction in JNVs is the mother tongue or regional language up to class VIII and English thereafter for math, science and Hindi for social science. JNV students appear for class X and XII CBSE board examinations.
JNVST is of nonverbal nature, class neutral and designed to ensure that talented children from the rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantages and also to ensure that children from far flung rural areas get admission forms free of cost without any problem.
All the children who have passed Class V from any recognised school of Hamirpur District and are between 9 to 13 years of age are eligible to write JNVST for admission to JNV Nagaur at Class VI. As per the scheme, a maximum of 80 students can be admitted in Class VI.

The objectives of JNV Nagaur is to promote national integration by providing opportunities to talented children, largely rural from different parts of the country and make them live and learn together and develop their full potential. The school also aims to provide quality education, including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education and ensure that all students of Navodaya Vidyalaya’s attain a reasonable level of competence in three language as envisaged in the Three Language Formula and to serve, in each district, as focal point for improvement in quality of school education through sharing of experience and facilities.
The school hosts six dormitories for boys and two dormitories for girls with a canteen cum dining hall that serves nutritious food.
