Overview

JD Birla Institute (JDBI), Kolkata, West Bengal is a private unaided college for women affiliated with Jadavpur University, Kolkata. The college was founded by the Late Sushila Devi Birla, wife of the Late L N Birla, in June 1962. The college was established to provide scientific education to young women from Kolkata’s conservative families. A Commerce Department was added in 1997. The JD Birla Institute is accredited with Grade A by NAAC.

The college’s mission is to prepare the younger generation with academic excellence and practical skills to face global challenges and lead the country in the future.

Campus

The classrooms are spacious, soundproofed, air-conditioned and equipped with LCD projectors. The college has a state-of-the-art computer laboratory and CAD studio with LAN connectivity and 24-hour internet access. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The campus includes a 250-seat auditorium, a common room for recreation and relaxation, a badminton court and indoor games facility for carom and chess. The campus also has a health centre equipped with medi-care equipment and run by a trained nurse.

The college is equipped with fire extinguishers and electronic fire alarm system besides CCTV surveillance to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Undergraduate Admission:

Selection Criteria: Academic merit, aptitude test and personal interview/group discussion.

Eligibility: 10+2 from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 50-55%.

Admission Process:

Candidates must register for admission by filling the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
B.Sc. (Hons.) applicants have to appear for an aptitude test followed by a personal interview. Admission will be offered based on candidate’s performance in aptitude test, personal interview and academic merit.
B.Com. applicants will have to appear for a group discussion. Admission will be offered based on candidate’s performance in the group discussion and academic merit.
Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by verifying their documents and paying the fees.

Postgraduate Admission:

Selection Criteria: Academic merit, general aptitude test and personal interview.

Eligibility: Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 55%. (M.Com. applicants must have a B.Com. degree from Jadavpur University)
