JEE-Main: 23 candidates bag 100 score in first edition of exam

February 13, 2024

On Tuesday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) revealed that twenty-three candidates achieved a perfect score of 100 in the JEE-Main engineering entrance exam, with the majority hailing from Telangana. The exam, considered crucial for college admissions, saw participation from over 11.70 lakh candidates in its first edition.

Among the candidates securing the coveted 100 NTA scores, Telangana dominated with seven candidates, followed by two each from Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. Additionally, two candidates from Delhi and one each from Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu achieved perfect scores.

According to NTA officials, the NTA score differs from the percentage of marks obtained and represents normalized scores. These scores are standardized across multi-session papers, considering the relative performance of all examinees within one session. The marks are then converted into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session.

The exam was conducted in various languages, including Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Furthermore, the exam took place internationally in cities such as Manama, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Kuwait City, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos/Abuja, Colombo, Jakarta, Moscow, Ottawa, Port Louis, Bangkok, and Washington D.C. Notably, it was also conducted for the first time in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, and Oslo.

While the first edition of the exam occurred in January-February, the second edition is scheduled for April. Based on the JEE-Mains Paper 1 and Paper 2 results, candidates will be shortlisted for the JEE-Advanced exam, a gateway for admission to the 23 prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
