The Karnataka police have arrested 5 medical students from Shivamogga for procuring, growing and selling marijuana.
They were nabbed in two different operations by the police. The arrests were made in Vijayapura and Ballari districts.
Three among those who were arrested were also said to be involved in the indoor cultivation of cannabis. The accused were nabbed after some people informed the police about these students selling marijuana to locals.
In yet another incident on June 24, a student from Tamil Nadu was caught cultivating marijuana. The police said that he had an elaborate set up that involved lighting to replicate sunlight and a small tent with ventilating fans.
The accused learnt how to grow this crop online. They had also purchased marijuana seeds online. During these raids, close to 223 grams of dry marijuana worth Rs 5,800, 1.53 kilos of fresh marijuana, 10 grams of charas or marijuana seeds, marijuana in its powder form, and cannabis oil were seized by the police. Equipment worth Rs.19,000 to grow this was also seized.
