The University of Lucknow, which has been awarded the A++ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), is set to expand its reach by affiliating 14 new colleges for the upcoming academic session of 2023-24. This move will provide an additional 1,000 seats in various undergraduate programs offered by these colleges in Lucknow and surrounding districts.
Out of the 14 newly affiliated colleges, 10 will be located in Lucknow district, while the remaining four will be spread across Sitapur, Rae Bareli, and Hardoi. The decision to grant affiliation will be discussed and approved in the upcoming executive council meeting scheduled for Thursday, according to the Lucknow University registrar Sanjay Medhavi. These new colleges will offer programs such as BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA, and BALLB (Law).
Currently, Lucknow University has 545 affiliated colleges. With the addition of these 14 new colleges, the total number of affiliated colleges will rise to approximately 559, encompassing Lucknow, Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Hardoi, and Lakhimpur Kheri districts. In addition to affiliating new colleges, the university is also considering granting course affiliations to colleges for introducing new programs.
To meet the government’s deadline of June 15 for state universities to grant affiliation to new colleges, an emergency executive council meeting has been convened by the university. Previously, Lucknow University had granted temporary affiliations to 171 colleges, allowing them to offer 176 new undergraduate courses. Additionally, 11 colleges received permanent course affiliation.
Among the colleges granted permanent affiliation, Chandrabhanu Gupt Agriculture Postgraduate College in Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) Lucknow was permitted to offer a BSc course. Geet Law College in BKT will now provide BA LLB Hons (5 years), and Lala Mahadev Prasad Verma Balika Mahavidyalya has been approved to offer a Bachelor in Elementary Education. Furthermore, two colleges each from Hardoi and Sitapur, as well as three colleges from Rae Bareli, have received affiliation for the academic session of 2023-24.
Lucknow University’s decision to extend its affiliation to these new colleges and introduce additional undergraduate seats reflects its commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the region. This move is expected to benefit aspiring students and contribute to the overall development of the academic landscape in Lucknow and its neighboring districts.
