Confusion reigns as students who appeared Maharashtra state board’s higher secondary certificate (HSC) aka class XII board exams await their results for 2020-21. The Supreme Court had directed all state boards to ensure class XII results are declared by July 31.

There has been no official communication from the state’s Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) that conducts the exam. Speaking to the media, Dinkar Patil, chairman, MSBSHSE cited the heavy rains and flooding in many parts of the state for the delay in processing of results this year. While the board was hoping to declare results at the earliest, “students would be informed a day in advance with the link being open to all candidates at the same time,” he added.

On Friday social media was rife with rumours and fake links of the HSC results after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared class XII results. With no clarification or official announcement regarding state board results, students miffed with  the poor handling of the result declaration by the MSBSHSE tweeted against the Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad.

This year 13 lakh students were to appear for the state board class XII exams which were scheduled in March and later postponed due to second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. In the absence of offline exams there is growing anxiety amongst state board students as results assessments are based on an alternative marking policy. The 40:30:30 formula tabulates marks on the basis of internal assessments as well as class X and class XI results. While 30 percent weightage is to be given to the average of the best of three subjects of the student’s class X results, another 30 percent is to be given to class XI results. Class XII internals marks make up the remaining 40 percent weightage.
