Model Engineering College (MEC), Kochi was promoted in 1989 by the Institute of Human Resource Development for Electronics, IHRDE (now IHRD) to provide quality engineering education in the industrial centre of Kerala. It is a self financing institute with a fair degree of autonomy, affiliated with the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). It is a member institute of the World Bank assisted TEQIP - Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme in India. The college offers undergraduate programmes (B.Tech) in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Biomedical Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering and postgraduate course in VLSI design and Embedded systems. MEC consistently finds its place among the top 50 engineering colleges in leading education surveys. Over the past few years, the college has witnessed record breaking placements channelled through dynamic corporate scenarios. The institute's placement cell has been securing lucrative employment offers for more than 300 B.Tech graduates of MEC each year besides encouraging and facilitating summer internship projects. The top recruiters include Microsoft, Oracle, Syntel, Yahoo, Cadence, Disney, Nokia and Deloitte among others.
