Modern Senior Secondary School, Nanganallur, Chennai is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. The school was promoted by the Modern Indian Educational Society formed and registered in the year 1974 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Act #XXI of 1860).
The school aims at holistic development of the students entrusted to its carte. Besides academic excellence, the school emphasises on cognitive development, value education, inculcation of good behaviour and conduct.
The primary wing (LKG to class IV) is housed in a four storeyed building in State Bank Colony extension ground while classes V and VI are accommodated in a two storeyed building in AG’s office colony. The higher classes (VII to XII) are located in the main four storeyed building in AG’s office colony. The school hosts well equipped science laboratories and four computer centres, a well stocked library, an open air-auditorium and a spacious assembly hall with chairs and tables and a good sound system, 7 smart class rooms. Both the primary block and main building have large playgrounds for practicing various kinds of sports.
The school follows the CBSE curriculum. The following subjects are offered in classes XI and XII – English, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy, and Computer Science. In classes IX and X the subjects include English, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. In classes VIII and below, the curriculum framed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is generally followed.
The school offers various incentives to foster value education such as scholarship from Mahaswami Scholarship Fund for proficiency in devotional songs by Adi Sankaracharya, Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati Award for inculcation of values through Vedic Heritage Teaching Programme, Srimati P Balambal Proficiency Prize for proficiency in Vedic Studies and prizes for proficiency in Bhaja Govindam, Thiruppavai and Sri Venkatesa Prapathi.
The school also has co-curricular activities such as Scouts, NCC, quizzes, performance and fine arts.
