National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NITC), formerly the Calicut Regional Engineering College, founded in 1961, is an institute of national importance set up by an Act passed by the Parliament of India. It was a lead institute under the World Bank-funded Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) which commenced in 2002. NITC boasts student strength of 4200 and faculty strength of 188. Besides academics, the institute is engaged in a wide spectrum of activities covering research and development, industrial consultancy, continuing education and faculty and staff development. NITC was ranked No.13 in the India Today survey of best engineering colleges in India in 2012. As such, NITC students get their deserved placement in leading firms in the industry.
The NITC campus is sited at Chathamangalam, 22 km north-east of Kozhikode, formerly known as Calicut, on the Kozhikode-Mukkam road. The institute hosts a state-of-the-art library comprising a digital library and a conventional library featuring books, journals and bound volumes. It has a computer centre which is open 24 hrs a day, equipped with relevant software packages and latest computers with internet facilities. Other facilities at NIT include a guest house, health centre, hostels, seminar hall, canteen and sports zone.

Admission to B.Tech and B.Arch degree programmes are based on the performance in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and class XII examination. Admission to M.Tech programme is based on performance in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), which is an entrance examination conducted annually for admissions to various science and technology postgraduate programmes. For admission to MCA programme NIMCET (NIT MCA Common Entrance Test) is conducted. CAT (Common Admission Test) is conducted for MBA admissions. Fees For undergraduate courses total fee payable at the time of admission is Rs. 42,700. Yearly hostel fee for residential students is Rs. 12,000.
