The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examination is anticipated to take place in the first week of July, with counseling scheduled for the first week of August, according to sources on Saturday. In a noteworthy update, it has been communicated that the National Exit Test (NExT) will not be conducted this year.
The NEET-PG serves as a crucial eligibility-cum-ranking examination, serving as the singular entrance test for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019. The recent notification, “Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023,” supersedes the prior Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2018. As per the new regulations, the NEET-PG examination will persist until the proposed NExT becomes operational for PG admission purposes.
This development brings clarity to the timeline for medical aspirants, allowing them to prepare for the NEET-PG examination scheduled for the initial week of July. Additionally, the subsequent counseling process is slated to commence in the first week of August. Notably, the exclusion of the National Exit Test for the current year marks a departure from previous expectations.
The NEET-PG examination holds immense significance, acting as a gateway for candidates seeking admission to postgraduate medical courses across the country. The continuity of the NEET-PG until the implementation of the NExT emphasizes the transitional nature of the medical education framework and aims to provide a streamlined process for aspiring medical professionals.
