North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong is a Central University established on July 19, 1973 by an Act of the Indian Parliament. It was established as a regional university for the states of northeast India, including Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, and had given birth to Nagaland University in 1994 and Mizoram University in 2001. The university offers 53 undergraduate colleges affiliated with the University including eight professional colleges.
NEHU has two academic campuses, one at Mawkynroh-Umshing, Shillong, and another at Chandmari, Tura. Shillong is the headquarters of academic and administrative functions. The 1025 acre main campus accommodates the National Council of Science Museum, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Sports Authority of India and The English and Foreign Languages University. The central library features a collection of over 230,000 books, 38,000 bound periodicals and it subscribes to 316 foreign and 366 Indian journals.

Eligibility for BTech 1. Candidates must have passed 10+2 in science stream or its equivalent from any recognised board and secured at least 45 percent aggregate marks (relaxation for SC/ST candidates by 5 percent marks) in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry /Biotechnology /Biology/Technical 2. Candidatesmust have valid positive JEE (Main) score card. Eligibility Criteria for Law: Candidates must have passed (10+2) or its equivalent with minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate for General categoryand 45 percent marks for SC/ST student from a recognised university/board The maximum age limit for General candidates is20 (twenty) years and 22 (twenty two) years for SC/ST and OBC candidates as on August 1, 2015.
