Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday lauded the Punjab government for ushering in an “education revolution” after the state secured the top position in the Government of India’s National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2024.
The NAS, conducted by the Union Ministry of Education, assesses the learning outcomes of students in Classes 3, 5, 8, and 10 across government, aided, private and central schools, offering a comprehensive view of school education performance.
Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains recently announced the state’s top rank on X, celebrating a record-breaking performance in foundational learning.
Addressing an event to mark the achievement, Kejriwal praised the efforts of chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration. “This is a moment of immense pride. Under previous regimes, government teachers protested for basic rights, but today, there is visible transformation in Punjab’s education landscape,” he said.
He credited the AAP government for creating a supportive environment in which teachers and students could thrive. Kejriwal highlighted that 845 government school students cleared NEET and 265 qualified for JEE Mains this year — a testament to the progress.
He reaffirmed that quality education, drug eradication, and youth employment remain the state’s core priorities. He also noted the establishment of Schools of Eminence as part of a broader push to enhance educational infrastructure and outcomes.
Chief minister Bhagwant Mann, education minister Harjot Singh Bains, and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also attended the event. Mann reiterated his government’s commitment to making Punjab a leader across all sectors and urged teachers to connect students with the state’s cultural heritage to foster holistic development.
Accusing past governments of neglecting the education sector, Mann said, “Government schools were reduced to mid-day meal centres. But today, they are becoming centres of excellence.”
The leaders agreed that the state’s education sector is undergoing a major transformation with long-term positive implications for students and society.
