QS World University Rankings 2021: IIT Bombay tops the list in India

The QS World University Rankings 2021 have been released which featured 107 Indian universities with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) being the top most institute in India in the global rankings 2021. Overall, 21 Indian higher education universities and institutes have found a place in the world’s top 1,000 rankings, all of which were also ranked in the 2020 QS rankings.

According to QS World University Rankings 2021, India’s best research university is IISc Bangalore, which received a perfect 100/100 on the ‘citations per faculty’ indicator.

Apart form IIT Bombay, the other institutes to have ranked in the list are Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (185), IIT Delhi (193); IIT Madras (275), IIT Kharagpur (314), IIT Kanpur (350), IIT Roorkee (383) and IIT Guwahati (470) are among the top 500 universities.

The QS India University Rankings are based on eight indicators; academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, staff with a PhD, papers per faculty, citations per paper, international faculty and international students. 

Last year, IIT-Bombay had also bagged the first position among Indian institutes in the 2020 edition of the London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World Graduate Employability Rankings. The reputed institute scored in the 111-120 range. Around 758 institutes have been ranked by the agency worldwide.
