Seth M.R. Jaipuria School organised Mission Shakti

March 6, 2021

Seth M.R. Jaipuria School has always endeavored to sensitize its students towards gender equality and bridge the gender gap that has existed in our society since decades.

Recently, the school organized Mission Shakti – an initiative undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh Government. The aim of this initiative was to inculcate self-reliance, boost self-confidence and self-respect and promote women safety in the state. The school was given a schedule of events that were to be carried out as per the given dates. In this initiative, teachers and students both played an integral part.

Self-defense education

Their physical training instructors educated the girl students on the different techniques and maneuvers that they can adopt for tackling an attacker. The students were also educated on the importance of keeping themselves physically fit and active through a webinar.

Webinar on female adolescence issues

Adolescence is the most dynamic stage of development in the lifespan of an individual after early childhood. The time is marked by the onset of puberty, giving way to various changes that take place at physiological and psychological level. The sudden encounter of these changes has a significant impact on the overall development of teenagers.

Against this background, a webinar was conducted with girl students of Class 6, 7 and 8. Topics like onset of puberty, menstrual health and hygiene, emotional needs of the adolescents, gender stereotypes and myths were discussed.

Webinar on female health issues

Another webinar was conducted by Dr. Shipra Srivastava on the many health issues faced by women such as PCOD, PCOS, thyroid, ovarian cyst, obesity, anemia and maladaptive diet that can adversely affect the academics and behaviour of the students.

The entire programme was culminated with a prize ceremony where the winners and all the participants received certificates. Some of the student’s also spoke about their take-away from the initiative.

Webinar on Female Foeticide

Even in the 21st century, female foeticide is practiced in many parts of the country. And contrary to popular belief, this orthodox practice is prevalent in big cities too.

A webinar was organized to educate both girl and boy students on this malicious practice and the emotional effects it has on the mother of the child. Students were sensitized to the plight of these women who are not given a say in the birth of their own child.

Essay, poster and slogan writing competition

To reiterate the cruelty of female foeticide, students were encouraged to depict their learning creatively. They were asked to write essays, make posters and coin slogans to educate others about this malpractice. The students then presented their artworks and ideas behind their creativity and also shared their take-aways from the workshop.

Prize distribution

The entire programme culminated with a prize distribution ceremony where the winners and all the participants received certificates. Some of the students also volunteered to speak about their learnings from the entire workshop.
