Balakrishnan T. is a visionary-educationist and founder-chairman of the St. Francis Educational Trust (estb.1988). An alumnus of Calicut University, Balakrishnan began his career as a school teacher. In 1989, he promoted the trust’s first institution — St. John’s High School, Tata Power House — to offer households residing in the educationally under-served suburb of Borivali (East) access to high-quality schooling. Subsequently over the past three decades, he has promoted a school and junior college in Vapi (Gujarat) and two more schools in Mumbai. The trust’s four institutions have an aggregate enrolment of 11,500 students.
Tessy Sheebu
Principal
An education and commerce alumna of Mumbai University with 14 years of teaching and administrative experience in the Dr. T.R. Naravane College of Commerce, St. Anne’s Junior College of Commerce and the Ramzan Ali College of Commerce (all in Mumbai), Tessy Sheebu is the principal of St. John’s High School. Over the past 11 years, she has focused on introducing child-centric pedagogies, boosting professional development of teachers and providing remedial and life skills education to students.
Campus Infrastructure
St. John’s High School Borivali (E) offers excellent academic and sports infrastructure. The academic block hosts 38 air-conditioned classrooms of which 26 are IT-enabled and fitted with smart boards; three fully-equipped science and mathematics labs, computer lab equipped with 47 terminals; geography lab and 300-seat multipurpose auditorium.
