The Punjab Public School, Nabha: An ideal place for overall development

EducationWorld January 2024 | Spotlight Feature

Photo 3Education is the unfoldment of latent potencies in a human being. For them to manifest, a preceptor is an absolute must. The ancients knew the significance of a harmonious relationship between the teacher and students. This is how the gurukuls came into being. Even the emperors knew the importance of sending their children to the gurus quite early in life. In modern times, the gurukuls have been replaced by boarding schools. Over the years, boarding schools of all sorts have come up throughout the length and breadth of the country. Not all of them cater to the genuine needs of students who have a highly competitive world to survive in. Just a handful of schools meet the criteria of being called modern gurukuls. The Punjab Public School is one such institution where the complete potential of a child finds fulfillment, where a child gets proper and equal opportunities for a well-rounded personality.

The Punjab Public School was started in 1960 with a view to provide quality public school education. The guiding force in the opening of this school was Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab. The school was formally inaugurated by the first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on April 11, 1961. The school is currently headed by Dr DC Sharma, recently adjudged as one of the “50 Effective Principals-2023” by Education World.

Besides academic growth of the child, there is a lot of emphasis on co-curricular and extracurricular activities. A number of clubs and societies ensure that children are gainfully engaged throughout the academic session. The guest lectures are organised on a regular basis to motivate students. This gives students the much needed exposure as they freely converse with the speaker and seek solutions for their problems. The school is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi and Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). Besides, the school has NCC units for Army, Navy and Air Force that ensures rigorous training of cadets for induction into the armed forces in later life. NCC (Air Wing) Cadet Vedant P Kulkarni made the school proud by making it to the Republic Day Camp 2024. Career counselling is a regular feature that guides students towards their career goals. Gurmanpreet Singh Saran of ISC Batch 2022-23 has got admission to California State University. He will be pursuing B.Sc. in Computer Engineering. Kanishk Goyal of the current ISC Batch 2023-24 has got the AIR 475 in CLAT.

The school has vast lush green area of 105 acres. There are lush green playfields where children play all sorts of games like hockey, football, cricket, riding and athletics. A state-of-the-art Girls Boarding House with all modern amenities is the pride of the school. There are boarding houses for Senior, Middle and Junior boys. The school is a member of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference (IPSC). The students take part in the IPSC & CISCE Sports Competitions throughout the year. The school has the Multi-Facility Sports Complex to cater to almost all indoor games including badminton, basketball and shooting. The class rooms are fitted with smart interactive panels to provide effective teaching-learning experience.

Under the aegis of the Round Square, AFS and MUN, the students participate in regional and international conferences. The exchange trips with world renowned schools give students an unparalleled exposure of various cultures.

The diverse avenues and pathways are designed to shape individuals with multifarious talents in sync with the changing times. The school is an ideal choice for parents looking for an all-round education in consonance with the NEP 2020.
