The erstwhile Government of Mysore started the Government Law College on July 1, 1948. In 1976, the Government Law College was placed under Bangalore University. Since then, the college has been known as University Law College (ULC), Bangalore. The University Law College, Bangalore started by offering the LLB programme, initially as a two-year course and later as a three-year course. The five-year full-time BA LLB degree course was introduced by the Bangalore University in 1986-87.
ULC is housed in the city campus of Bangalore University and hosts spacious and well furnished classrooms, faculty rooms and other facilities. Established in 1966, the university library is housed in the Jnana Bharathi Campus and features 1.5 lakh books for circulation, a reference section storing 35,000 reference and text books and the periodical section with more than 200 current periodicals and 50,000 book volumes of periodicals. The library is accessible on all working days from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The university library holds library committee meetings from time to time under the chairmanship of the vice chancellor. The Registrar, Finance Officer and all the Deans are the members of the committee and the librarian is the member secretary of the committee.
The institute offers a high level of academic excellence with its well-planned programmes and committed staff. Students make regular visits to the court and prisons and record their observations. LLM Eligibility: Candidates seeking admission to the LLM programme under semester scheme should hold an LLB degree from Bangalore University or any other recognized university, with 45 percent minimum aggregate score in the 3 year/5year LLB degree examinations, and should have secured 50 percent or above in the subject of specialization.
