The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department plans to release a dictionary featuring words in a variety of regional dialects, including Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Braj, and Bundelkhandi. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, this initiative aims to preserve and utilize these dialects in order to improve education in the region. The Prayagraj State Institute of Education has been assigned the task of creating the dictionary by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). The dictionary will allow teachers to communicate more effectively with students in their local dialects at primary and upper primary schools throughout the state. By promoting the conservation of these dialects, the dictionary project will also help reduce linguistic barriers, allowing students to better understand their lessons. To discuss how to proceed, experts from across the state will attend a workshop.

This is a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department to conserve and use regional dialects in the Hindi heartland. The move is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, which aims to promote linguistic diversity and the use of mother tongues in education. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has entrusted the Prayagraj State Institute of Education with the task of developing the dictionary.
The dictionary will include words from various regional dialects, including Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Braj, and Bundelkhandi. It will be used by teachers at primary and upper primary schools throughout the state to better communicate with students in their local dialects. The use of these dialects is expected to help students better understand their lessons and remove linguistic barriers.

According to Naval Kishore, the principal of the State Institute of Education, the project will not only help to conserve these dialects but also encourage their use in education. A workshop featuring experts from across the state will be organized to discuss ways to proceed with the creation of the dictionary.
