Overview

Veda Vyasa DAV Public School, Delhi is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The school was established by Chitra Nakra, the founder principal, in 1982 with 400 children under the supervision of the DAV management. Currently the school has an enrollment of 4,000 students and 123 teachers. The teacher student ratio is 1:17.

The school’s objectives are to promote Indian values along with inculcation of scientific temper and aesthetic sensitivity, and blend Indian traditions with state-of-the-art teaching technologies and educational infrastructure and offer holistic education.

Campus

The school provides four well equipped, air-conditioned computer labs, a well stocked library which also has an inventory of thousands of CDs, a multimedia lab where educational CDs and academic support material is projected on the big screen with laser projectors. The school also has QUEST – A Resource Centre which provides teachers access to global teaching resources and support material and students unlimited access to courseware. There are also well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology and geography.

Sports infrastructure includes facilities for basketball, volleyball, cricket, badminton, table tennis and yoga.

Academics

The school is affiliated with CBSE and follows the curriculum guidelines laid by NCERT. The objective of the academic program is to "develop thinking and creative skills, promote rational thought and provide intellectual stimulation". Efforts are made to integrate value education into the school curriculum.

The academic year is divided into three terms – March to August, September to November, December to March and each term comprises of a cycle of a unit test and a terminal examination. Students are promoted on the basis of their cumulative performance in the academic year. Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system is followed. No formal testing is done until class III.

Extracurricular: The school’s co-curricular activities for classes VI to VIII include painting, sculpture, needle work, paper craft, gift-wrapping, music (vocal), dance, home science, literary club, PT and drill, toy making, tie and dye, block printing, yoga, science club, environment club, aerobics, beauty culture, and gymnastics.

For classes IX to XII the co-curricular activities include commercial art, sculpture/printing, needle work, tie and dye/batik, home science club, music (vocal), NIE/PACE and electronics.

Admission

For admission into pre-school, the minimum age of the child should be 3 years as on 31st March of the academic year in which admission is sought. Admission forms are either issued at the school office or can be downloaded from the school website between January 2-16. The last date of submission of completed admission form is till January 16 from 8.30 am to 11.30 am.

The points for admission in preschool are on the basis of the following parameters – student residing in Vikaspuri – 25, student residing beyond Vikaspuri – 15, children who have siblings (own brother or sister) studying in the school / children of former alumni- 15, girl child – 10, children of (war widow, armed forces, martyr or diplomat) – 20, transfer case – 20.

List of selected students belonging to general category will be displayed on February 1 at 2 pm.

Achievement

Veda Vyasa DAV Public School has been awarded Eco friendly School of the Year Award by the Indian Institute of Ecology and Environment. The school has also been presented the British Council International School Award 2012-15.
