Overview

Rashtriya Military School, Dholpur is an all boys residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. It is one of the five military schools in India founded in 1962 by former Defense minister of India, Late Krishnan Menon. The school aims to facilitate education for children of Defense personnel as well as civilians and prepare them for entry to NDA and other reputed Defense and professional institutes.

The school functions under the Ministry of Defense and offers education to students from class VI to XII with the aim to train and prepare the cadets for entry into the National Defense Academy (NDA).

Campus

The school buildings are located on two adjacent hills, the academic building on Kesarbagh and the hostel and residences are located on the hill sometimes referred as new campus.

The school hosts well ventilated class rooms and well equipped labs for science, math and geography, besides well equipped computer labs with facilities for online teaching. The school library houses over 7,000 books in English and Hindi and provision for individual study cabins. The school also hosts a canteen, a cafeteria and a medical infirmary.

Sports infrastructure includes facilities for boxing, cricket, football, hockey, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton and judo along with a swimming pool and a golf course.

Academics

Rashtriya Military Schools are CBSE affiliated residential schools for boys of class VI to XII. The school prepares the cadets for All India Senior School Certificate Examination and for joining Defence forces as officers. The medium of instruction is English while Hindi is a compulsory subject for students of classes VI to X.

A typical day in a cadet’s life starts at 0500 hours with physical training, followed by breakfast, assembly, classes at Kesarbagh Fort (with tea break at 1115 hrs) till 1300 hrs, then lunch at cadet’s mess, noon prep, evening games, wash and change, evening prep, dinner at 2000 hours and after dinner prep until lights out at 2200 hours.

Extracurricular: Boys are encouraged and guided to choose one or more hobbies. There are a number of clubs for pursuing hobbies in the school. NCC is a part of cadet activities and there are hobby clubs catering to varied interests of the cadets. School Annual Day is held in December when a cultural programme is held in honour of the chief guest (usually a senior army officer) who distributes prizes for achievement in academics, co-curricular and sport. Sports activities include boxing, cricket, football, hockey, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, judo, swimming and golf.

Admission

Boys between the age of 10–12 years are eligible for admission to the school from class VI onwards.

The Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to class VI is held in December. The exam is automated OMR based and tests the candidates knowledge in general awareness, mathematics and English of class V standard. Candidates who clear the CET and are figuring in the merit list will be required to appear for interview at respective Rashtriya Military Schools. Final merit list is prepared after the interview.

Fees: 

The school tuition fee varies for each category, Rs 4800/- per annum for OR, Rs 7200/- per annum JCOs, Rs 15,000/- per annum for officers and Rs 24000/- per annum for civilians. SC and ST candidates are required to pay one fourth of the amount mentioned above.

In addition to the tuition fee, students are required to deposit pocket money expenditure and refundable security deposit. Details are available in the prospectus of the school.

Rashtriya Military School, Dholpur is ranked among the best boys boarding schools in India by the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2020-21.

The school’s alumni include Generals (Lt Gen and Maj Gen), Brigadiers, Colonels and Lt Colonels along with Governors, ministers, civil servants, actors and business tycoons.

Akhilesh Yadav, an alumnus of RMS Dholpur is the youngest person to hold the office of chief minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Accommodation

There are six hostels in total; besides hostels, the new campus houses the principal’s residence, cadets’ mess, Vivekanand Hall, VIP guest house, guest house, cafeteria, CSD canteen, MI Room, staff residence, temple, basketball courts, lawn tennis courts, gymnasium, boxing ring, and obstacles.

Every hostel has two floors, with junior dorm, middle dorm and box room on the first floor and senior dorm on one side and preparation room, recreation room and warden office on the other.
