Overview

Inspired by Mata Amritanandamayi, the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMS) was inaugurated on May 17, 1998 under the aegis of Mata Amritanandamayi Math. AIMS is one of the institutes comprising the Health Sciences campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University). The institute was awarded the status of a medical university by the government of Kerala on August 10, 2002. AIMS is an ISO 9001:2008 certified institute accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for its laboratories and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). It is ranked among the top 10 medical colleges in India by leading education surveys conducted annually.

Campus

The 93 acre AIMS campus hosts computerized and well equipped lecture halls (A/c and Non-A/c), telemedicine facility, a fully computerized central library with internet/email/intranet. There are also departmental libraries and students have access to dental, nursing and pharmacy college libraries. Amrita Vidyapeetam boasts an innovative fully computer based teaching, learning, accounts and administration module. Other facility offerings on the campus include separate hostels for men and women students, guest houses for their parents, an exclusive students store that provides text books, practical materials etc., an exclusive cash counter for students and parents, canteens that serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, juice-fruit stall, snacks bars, general stores, post office, bank and ATM, tailoring shop, laundry, travel desk and taxi service. Sports facilities include three acres of sports field for shuttle, volley ball, tennis, cricket, athletics etc. two gymnasium - one for boys and one for girls, an indoor games facility for chess and carom and a common room in each hostel building.

Accommodation

The boys hostel has about 256 rooms, each with two to three beds, while there are five girls hostels with 975 two to six seater rooms.
