Azim Premji University on Tuesday unveiled a free-to-use digital repository of academic resources that have been translated from English to Kannada and Hindi.
The repository, ‘Anuvada Sampada’ has over 2,000 resources (studies, texts, research papers among other content) that have been made available for students, teachers and researchers.
In the initial phase, the content is being made available in English, Hindi and Kannada and would soon be made available in other Indian languages as well according to the university.
Shanta K, programme manager translations initiative, Azim Premji University said, “It was during an annual planning meeting that the idea was discussed. The main agenda of launching this repository is to allow free and open access to resources for those who can benefit from it. We have also enabled an option where the keywords could also be entered in any of the three languages. Nearly 300 academicians have put in their efforts towards the same,”
“Non-availability of academic resources in Indian languages is a major constraint in expanding access to education and ensuring inclusion. We believe this initiative will help students engage more deeply with concepts and ideas currently available only in English, encourage nuanced debates, and develop perspectives in diverse contexts,” said Hriday Kant Dewan, who leads this initiative at Azim Premji University.
The repository includes select academic resources for postgraduate programmes in education and development, and undergraduate programmes in arts, sciences, and diploma courses. Besides these, there are select articles from journals, extracts or complete chapters from books, podcasts, short films, brief lectures, and panel discussions related to higher education.
