Coal India partners with EdCIL for education initiative in Jharkhand

January 6, 2024

Coal India Limited (CIL), a state-owned entity, has recently formalized an initial agreement with EdCIL (India) Ltd to undertake an ambitious education initiative across 11 mining districts in the state of Jharkhand. EdCIL (India) Ltd, recognized as a reputable consultancy and project management firm, aligns its efforts with the objectives outlined in the New Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.

The collaboration between CIL and EdCIL is manifested through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signifying their joint commitment to “digitising education in eleven districts of Jharkhand,” as articulated in an official statement from the coal ministry on Friday.

This educational endeavor is designed to unfold over a span of three years and will be implemented in the specific districts associated with the mining activities of three subsidiaries under CIL: Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL), and Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL). The estimated financial outlay for the comprehensive project is set at Rs 27.08 crore.

Noteworthy components of the initiative encompass provisions for teacher training and a three-year maintenance plan for the installed educational infrastructure. It is imperative to highlight that CIL, as a key player in the domestic coal sector, contributes significantly, commanding over 80 percent of the country’s coal output. This collaborative effort between CIL and EdCIL underscores a strategic move to enhance educational facilities in regions closely associated with coal mining activities, emphasizing a commitment to digital education and aligning with broader national education policies.
