Delhi allocates Rs 16,396 crore for education in the 2024-25 budget

In the fiscal year 2024-25 budget announced on Monday, the Delhi government allocates Rs 16,396 crore for education, slightly lower than the previous year’s outlay of Rs 16,575 crore. Finance Minister Atishi, presenting the budget in the Delhi Assembly, emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering quality education. She highlighted the transformative improvements in government schools under the Kejriwal-led administration, acknowledging the crucial role played by former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.

Atishi discussed advancements in teacher training, with 47,914 teachers regularized and ongoing recruitment for 7,000 vacancies. Notable achievements include the direct appointment of 324 principals from UPSC and the promotion of 389 vice-principals to principal positions. Student outcomes in government schools have surpassed those in private schools, with over 2,121 students clearing JEE and NEET exams in a year.

The budget addresses various education initiatives, such as increased university seats, allocations for SCERT, new school construction, classroom maintenance, and specific programs like the Delhi Model Virtual School and Chief Minister Super Talented Coaching Scheme. Sports education receives Rs 118 crore, higher and technical education gets Rs 1,212 crore, and Rs 15 crore is allocated for “Business Blasters Senior.”

In the pursuit of realizing the vision of ‘Ram Rajya,’ Atishi presented a comprehensive budget with an overall outlay of Rs 76,000 crore for the financial year 2024-25.
