Fathers Day 2022: All about making our superheroes special

June 19, 2022

There will always be a few people who have the courage to love what is untamed inside us. One of them is my father. – Alison Lohman

Fathers are the embodiment of real-life heroes in our life, whose hard work is behind every family’s well-being. Father’s Day is a celebration honoring them. Every year, this day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June, and this year, it falls on June 19. The Day acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of fathers to their own families and society at large, but after all they have done for us, they deserve to be appreciated on a daily basis, rather than waiting all year for a card and tie.

This special day is also dedicated to those father figures who shape our mind and thoughts and play a vital role in giving wings to our dreams.

Children come up with various ways to celebrate this day with their fathers. They buy or make presents and write and draw cards, to show their love for fathers. Some spend the day engaged in different activities that can be enjoyed with their father — like fishing, camping, shopping, art and craft, or just sitting and watching movies. Many children find the amazing chance to establish a closer relationship with their fathers.

EducationWorld takes a sneak peek into how these children are celebrating Father’s Day:

When it comes to “the perfect gift” for Father’s Day, nothing is better than spending time with your father. Telling him that you love him, appreciating the small things he does for you, making him feel happy and special, assuring him that we are there for him the same way he assures us. Let us celebrate that one very exceptional person in our life who did everything just to make us feel that no matter what, nothing in the world will ever harm us because he will always be there every step of the way, not just on Father’s Day or Children’s Day, but every day. Making them all feel special and loved is my goal for not only this Father’s Day, but every single day I can.

Everyday is father’s day for me, but this third Sunday of June is all about making my superhero feel special. This father’s day 2022, I will spend the day pampering my father like he does for 365 days of the year without me even uttering a word! I shall drive him for lunch to his favourite restaurant and enjoy the wonderful weather with him while listening to his old retro music playlist.

The concept of Father’s Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of American Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart in America, in the year 1910. While hearing a church sermon about the newly recognised Mother’s Day at Central Methodist Episcopal Church, Dodd felt fatherhood also needed recognition and approached the Spokane Ministerial Alliance and suggested her own father’s birthday, June 5, as the day to honour fathers. Instead, the Alliance chose the third Sunday of June to celebrate.

Since then, as many as 111 countries but in countries like Australia and New Zealand it is celebrated on the first Sunday in the month of September while in Brazil, it is observed on the second Sunday of August.
