Himachal’s tech colleges to introduce AI, data science in their curriculum

Himachal Pradesh Technical Education Minister Ram Lal Markanda and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science will be introduced in the curriculum of technical colleges in Himachal in the upcoming academic session as AI and data science are two among the new age courses.

According to Markanda, the new courses will help the students keep pace with the ever-evolving technological advancements and prepare them well for the job in the market. He says that the state government is committed in providing quality education to the students.

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that, Government Hydro Engineering College of Bilaspur will offer the BTech program with specialization in AI and data science. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) has approved this course.

The minister also informed that the state government has sanctioned INR 111crore for the development of infrastructure in technical institutes in the state. Himachal Pradesh has 10 government engineering colleges and 2 polytechnics which offer degree and diploma courses in various engineering field.

Chief minister said, the government aims to bridge the gap between academics and industry and to ensure good quality of education the government will employ qualified teachers who are specialised trainers.

The move to introduce AI and data science in the curriculum is in line with the growing demand for these skill sets in industries such as healthcare finance and e-commerce among others.
