Atleast 130 students (class 1-10) from across Karnataka have been affected by Covid-19 so far, according to statistics released by the deputy director of statistics, department of public instruction in Bengaluru on Monday.
The office of the commissioner of public instruction collated data from across the state, where several isolated incidents of cluster cases of Covid-19 are being reported in schools and colleges, promoting the temporary closure of institutions that have reported cases.
Karnataka, particularly Bengaluru is on high alert after two cases of the allegedly highly contagious Omicron variant of the Coronavirus was reported early last week triggering the fear of the onset of a third wave.
The highest number of students infected is from Chikkamagaluru where 92 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Koppa Taluk of the district tested positive. The incident came to be reported on Monday and the institution has been sealed for seven days while the entire campus is being sanitized.
In Kodagu district’s Madikeri, 11 students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan school have tested positive, all of who are class 8 students.
The department of public instruction has furnished data of 21 educational institutions from where cases have been reported. They also state that out of the 35 cases that have been reported since July this year, all students have recovered.
