Karnataka: Set up e-learning facility, coach poor and excellent performers, schools told

Reshma Ravishanker

Government schools in Karnataka have been directed to set up e-learning centres for students with basic resources for students.

As part of the Education Guide the department of public instruction released recently, the department has suggested that schools set up these e-learning centres. These must be set up in schools with resources and funds available at the school’s disposal or by the contribution of donors.

These must have a projector, camera, a screen, computer and laptop and set up in a room identified as an audio video theatre. The happenings around the world are to be introduced to students via videos, art works and photographs here.

This is one among the slew of measures that have been introduced to boost the performance of students in class 10 and enhance their learning experience.

Schools that have not been delivering desirable results would be identified. An official of the education department will be identified at district levels to adopt schools (for improvement purposes).

The guidelines also recommend that students in all classes be categorised into six groups. Each of these six groups will have two inner circles encompassing a mix of students with different learning abilities. Such groups must be formed in the first week of the academic year and most be involved in CCE activities

Personal Touch

In July and January, a timetable is to designed to have a one-on-one meet with students to check how students have maintained their class books, notebooks, study material and have a personal level discussion with any challenges they face at school or home.

Teachers have also been suggested to plan surprise visits to houses of those students who have performed very poorly or those students who have excelled above the rest. Parents to be met for discussion on this. Districts must also identify top 10 in each school as potential rank holders for the state and provide additional coaching.
