A previous student at a private school in Thrissur caused panic on Tuesday by entering the Vivekodayam school brandishing what appeared to be a “gun.” Swift police response led to his arrest before any harm occurred with the air pistol.
Identified as Jagan, he entered the school in the morning and displayed the weapon in the staff room before moving through classrooms, alarming both students and staff. Although he fired a few rounds, fortunately, no injuries were reported as the police quickly subdued him on-site.
Charges filed against Jagan include trespassing and criminal intimidation. Police highlighted his mental health issues and confirmed orders for a medical examination based on his parents’ request.
The District Collector, VR Krishna Teja, reassured parents, labeling the incident as isolated and promptly arriving at the scene to address concerns.
Jagan, a former student with a history of disturbances, demanded a confiscated item and exhibited disruptive behavior, even shouting at officials during his confrontation with the police. He had a record of prior preventive detention for causing public disturbances.
