Overview

Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering (KLCE), Andhra Pradesh, is a co-educational autonomous college affiliated with the Koneru Lakshmaiah University, Vijaywada. It was established in 1981 by the KL Education Foundation (registered as a society in 1996) under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. The KLCE offers various graduate, undergraduate and doctoral level programmes through 13 departments-Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Bio-Technology, Computer Applications, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Basic Engineering Sciences – all of which are approved by the New-Delhi based All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) KLU has a strong Industry Relations & Placement Department (IRP) which plans industry participation in curriculum planning, guest lectures by experts from the industry, industrial training and tours for students and has been consistent in achieving 100 percent placement for registered eligible students during past seven years. It also has an Entrepreneurship Cell established in association with India Institute of Technology-Madras and Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad. Some of the leading organisations recruiting students from KLCE are ADP, Vanoord (Netherlands), Accenture, Amararaja, Brakes India, CMC CTS, Convergys, Cummins, DELL, Dhyan Infotech, Essar Steels, Four Soft, Genting Lanco Power, HCL Technologies, Honeywell, IBM, Infosys, Kirlosker Group, Mahendra & Mahendra, Motorola, and Mphasis to name a few.

Campus

KLCE is sited on a spacious 50-acre self-sufficient campus on the banks of Buckingham Canal of river Krishna, eight km from the city of Vijayawada, with a built-up area of about 15,00,000 square feet. The campus has been aptly named "Green Fields" - the splendid avenue of trees and gardens bear testimony to the importance of ecology and environment and offer an ambience conducive for scholastic pursuits. KLU is a member in the prestigious “All India Virtual Class Room” initiated by Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development. This network enables the students to take advantage of the facilities such as virtual class rooms, virtual laboratories, journal sharing through online, video conference lectures and many more. The college building houses 68 academic laboratories, 29 research laboratories, five industry collaboration labs and four centres of excellence. It is the first academic institution in India with a wi-fi enabled campus and facilities to aid e-Learning. A 1,500-seater indoor stadium, a world-class conventional centre, 10 air-conditioned seminar halls, spacious classrooms, well-maintained and hygienic cafeteria, 4,500 seater open air auditorium, a full-fledge health centre are some of the other facilities available at KLU. The central library at KLU houses a collection of about 100,000 books, 7,529 CDs and VCDs, subscription to 327 print journals and 4,700 e-books as well as access to several online resources and databases through a digital library section. Excellent facilities of international standards are available for indoor and outdoor games with courts for hockey, badminton, cricket, volleyball, tennis, handball, netball, throwball, football, basketball, table tennis, kho-kho, and basketball. Facilities are also available for archery, soft ball as well as yoga and there are separate gymnasiums for boys and girls. Basic amenities such as guest house, public booth, fax, post office, and banking/ATM facilities of State Bank of Hyderabad, are available for student. Well-trained security guards, fire alarms and extinguishers are strategically place across KLCE for safety and security of students. A fleet of 70 buses are available to aid commuting of students and faculty of the college. The college also provides in-house accommodation for both boys and girls.

Following undergraduate (B.Tech) programmes are offered at KLCE: Aerospace Engineering (AE) Bio-Technology (BT) Civil Engineering (CE) Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) Electronics & Computer Engineering (EC) Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) Mechanical Engineering (ME) Duration of all B.Tech programmes is four years. The college also offers Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Finance, Journalism and Mass Communication, Hotel Management, and Business Administration. General Information

Admission

Students who have passed their higher secondary school examination or equivalent examination with a minimum of 60 percent in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English (Biology for admission in Biotech) are eligible to apply. They also need to successfully qualify the university’s entrance examination, joint entrance examination (of the IITs) or the common engineering examination conducted by the state and across India. Sports quota too is available. For other undergraduate courses, the candidates need to have passed their higher secondary school examination or equivalent examination with 50 percent marks and have to go through a written test conducted by the college as well as an interview. Accommodation

KL University offers separate wi-fi enabled hostels for boys (2,040 seats, 780 rooms) and girls (1,192 seats, 500 rooms) with well furnished rooms and modern amenities, such as state-of-the-art kitchen and spacious dining area, generators for power back up, laundry services, round-the-clock security, communication, dispensary facilities, stationary shop, and a mess with national and international cuisine. Hostel fee ranges from Rs.6,500-Rs.85,300 depending on the facilities sought.
